James Vernon Bailey, 74, of Prince George, passed away peacefully in his adored Redskins room on September 3, 2017. A lifelong resident of the Tri-City area, “Jimmy” was known to many as the founder of Ja-Le Custom Crafts and a die-hard Redskins fan. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Bailey, of 39 years; sons, James (Jordan) and Lee (Antoinette); and grandchildren, Brooke, Clay, Emmalee, and Ila Bailey. He is also survived by his older brother, Richard (Sissy); a dedicated niece, Wendy (Justin) Bailey; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alice Bailey; and four siblings, Gerdie Stewart, Buddy Bailey, Emma Virostek, and Robert Bailey.
Jimmy was born Oct 14th, 1942, in Petersburg, VA. He attended Petersburg High School, where he was an accomplished football player and captain of the team. He served in the Air Force as an airplane machinist and subsequently worked as a machinist at Brown & Williamson. He went on to found Ja-Le Custom Crafts, where he worked until retirement last year and was well known and respected for his woodworking skills. His legacy continues as the cabinet shop remains open and is run by his son. Family and friends will gather for a private celebration of his life at a later date.
