Hugh Benton Douglas Jr.
Hugh Benton Douglas Jr., 63, of Richmond, died at home on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Cornelia Goff Douglas and Hugh Benton Douglas, and a beloved nephew, Michael Williamson.
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Pamela Douglas; son, Paul Benton Douglas (Mary Kay); grandson Anthony Paul Douglas; son, Stephen Wright Douglas; sister and brother-in-law, Cornelia Ann and William K. Williamson; nephews, Chris Williamson (Michele) and their children, Mallory, Rebecca and Lindsey; and Scott Williamson (Dawn) and their children, Ryan and Abby.
Hugh graduated from Hopewell High School in 1962, The College of William & Mary in 1966, VCU/MCV School of Dentistry in 1970, and UNC School of Dentistry MS in Prosthodontics in 1974. He joined the faculty at the MCV School of Dentistry where he served with devotion for thirty six years.
At his retirement in October 2006, a fund was initiated to establish the Hugh B. Douglas Clinic as part of what will be known as the Perkinson Building at the School of Dentistry to honor his outstanding contribution. He stood for integrity and excellence in the practice of dentistry for his students, patients, and colleagues.
His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at Bliley’s Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave.
A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Third Presbyterian Church.

William Eugene “Bill” Palmer Jr.
William Eugene “Bill” Palmer Jr, 88, of Hopewell, died Jan. 29, 2008, in Riverview on the Appomattox.
He was born in Salisbury, N.C. Mr. Palmer served in the U.S. Army during World War II., was a retired foreman for Allied Chemical Corp., a member of Powers Memorial Baptist Church and Woodman of the World.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene and Loucile Bearnhardt Palmer, and his wife Doris Reid Palmer. Surviving are his daughter, Dolores P. Browder and husband Bernie of Chester; a son, William E. “Bill” Palmer III and wife Janet of Chester; two granddaughters, Kristine Jackson and husband David of Prince George; Dana Palmer of Chester; two grandsons, Bernie Browder Jr. and wife Teresa of Hopewell, and Brad Browder of Chester; nine great-grandchildren, Josh, Austin, Caroline, Grace, Landon Browder, Lily Jackson, Christopher and Andrea Heekin, nephew, Dr. John Pope, wife Alice and son John and daughter Kristen of Colonial Heights; five nieces, Barbara Ann Grabowski and husband Walter, Carol Howerton and husband Zig, Tudy Midyette, Harriett Gibbs and husband Richard and Karen Gibbs; brother-in-law Ray Reid and wife Jo of Hopewell; and sister-in-law Alma Neal of North Carolina.
The family received friends Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 from 6-7:30 p.m in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Elder Bernie Browder officiating.

Farol Louvern Jack
Farol Louvern Jack, 90, of Hopewell, Va. died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 in Hopewell Health Care Center.
She was born in Bern, Kan. and had been a resident of Hopewell for several years. Mrs. Jack was the daughter of the late William and Anna Schober Miller and the widow of Robert D. Jack.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. Jack of Hopewell; two granddaughters, Nicolle Leigh Jack, Courtney Miller Jack Bornstein and her husband Charles; two great grandsons, Cameron Lee Washington and Chase Daniel Bornstein, all of Colonial Heights; two brothers, Donald Miller of Topeka, Kan. and Dale Miller of Seneca, Kan.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Sabetha, Kan.
In celebration of her life, friends are invited to the home of her son Bob at 310 Delton Ave., Hopewell, on Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 7 p.m. until.

James Peterson “Pete” Wells
James Peterson “Pete” Wells, of Chesterfield died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008 at his residence.
He was born in Hopewell and had been a lifetime resident of this area. Mr. Wells was a retired supervisor for Allied Signal Corporation. He was the son of the late Wiley Peterson and Daisy Johnson Wells.
Mr. Wells is survived by a devoted companion, Deborah J. Clevenger of Chesterfield.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
