Building Lego structures teaches architectural elements at DuPont Elementary School

What started out as just playing with Legos, turned into something else entirely. On Thursday, Nov. 9 the Hopewell School Received a instructional spotlight presentation from DuPont Elementary. During some instructional periods fourth grade teacher Gabriel Cintron had students build large, Lego structures to withstand numerous tests. Students work hard designing floor plans and assembling pieces to reach a certain goal, in this case it was to hold together when a softball would strike their creations. One thing students learn from the experience is that not all objects are made equal. Students utilize different architectural elements from different time periods and cultures, and are able to identify these elements in their own creations.
During the presentation students narrated how their project came to be, what they learned while assembling them and how well they succeeded their task.
