State police were involved in a high speed car chase on Winston Churchill Drive that resulted in a crash on Monday, June 2. They were also involved in a brief foot pursuit after the crash.
Sgt. James Elmore of the state police said a state trooper attempted to pull somebody over on I-295. But instead of stopping, the vehicle continued into Hopewell and a state trooper pursued.
The two cars traveled north along Winston Churchill Drive, and the car being pursued struck another vehicle around Miles Avenue. The car being pursued slid to a stop a couple of feet away from Miles Avenue. After the car slid to a stop the suspect got out and ran.
"After a brief foot pursuit we apprehended the suspect," Elmore said. "So we have the gentleman under arrest. Two vehicles involved, his and one other and no injuries."
At the scene of the accident Elmore said state police were still trying to gather details about the chase. Hopewell Police were called in to assist after the suspect got out of his car and fled on foot.
