Mr. Jerry Wilbert Maple
Mr. Jerry Wilbert Maple, son of the late Jeff and Fannie Maple departed this life Friday evening, June 6, 2009 at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, Va.. 
He was a native of Prince George County and a member of Mount Hope Baptist Church. When Jerry moved to Hopewell, he became very active in the city of Hopewell volunteering services to the John Randolph Nursing Home.  During this period, his mother lived in the facility as a resident which motivated him to help other residents. He received many awards for his volunteer work at the nursing home. Some of the awards were Volunteer of the Year, Induction into the Hopewell Community Center’s Hall of Fame, and he received the First Humanitarian Award (1995).  As a member of Mount Hope Baptist church, Jerry was very active supporting the church and contributing his culinary skills to the Men Fellowship Breakfast.  His dedication and love for work was truly displayed as an employee of the Ford Agency, Inc. for over 40 years.  
  He leaves to cherish his memory: a brother, Barnett Maple (Lorraine) of Prince George; a devoted nephew, Charles B. Lawrence(Cheryl) of Lorton, Va.; nieces, Daisy King(William) of Prince George, Doris Gray(Theodore) and Marie Maple of Petersburg, Va.; nephews, John Maple Jr. and Randolph Maple of Prince George, Va.. Gilbert Maple(Hilda) of Petersburg, Fred Taylor of Hopewell, Va., Thomas Thweatt (Barbara) of Mint Hill, N.C., Lawrence Thweatt of New York and many loving great nieces/nephews, cousins, friends, and  a very special  and dedicated extended family, Mrs. and Mrs. Allen and Virginia W. Flannagan Jr.
  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday June 11, 2009 at the chapel of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell with the Rev. William N. Bland, Jr. Pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church officiating. The interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Prince George. The family will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. on the day of service.

Roy B. Pugh
Roy B. Pugh departed this life on June 9, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 13, 1929, in Missouri. Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy B. Pugh, his mother Emily Ellard, his wife of 29 years, Juanita K. Pugh and a brother, Ken Ellard.
He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Sue Sisson and husband Jimmy, of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; Roy B. Pugh, III and wife Julie; Denise Jernigan and husband Mike all of Prince George; three grandchildren Cindy Bias and husband Don of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; Ford Pugh and Philip Pugh both of Prince George and three great-grandchildren Matthew, Nicole and Emily Bias of Oliver Springs, Tenn.
Roy retired from the U. S. Army with 21 years of military service after serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Upon his military retirement, Roy attended John Tyler Community College where he became a machinist and became employed by American Filtrona. He then became a teacher at Hopewell High School and retired in 1984. In 1980 Roy opened R & R Machine Shop. He was a Master Mason for 44 years. Nobel Roy was a member of the Hopewell Shrine Club and also a member of the Hopewell Moose Lodge.
The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11, from 6:00 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009 at Southlawn Memorial Park.
