CARE AND
COMMITTMENT
Dear Editor,
To the Citizens of Hopewell: I have been fortunate to work with Anthony Sylvester for the past nine years. Our offices interact on a daily basis to see that justice is done in an effective manner.
Anthony has surrounded himself with three excellent prosecutors and a fine support staff.
He moved to Hopewell when he was thirteen and after graduation from Hopewell High School, college and law school he chose to remain in Hopewell to start his career and to see if he could make a difference.
His children attend Hopewell public schools which helps him know what is going on in our schools. While in office he has helped create programs for the senior citizens and the youth of our city who are two of the most vulnerable segments of our society.
He is also active in the neighborhood watch programs and several civic organizations which give back to the community.
I don't know anyone who cares more about Hopewell and making this a safe place to live and work than Anthony.
So if you want someone who cares about you and has proven his commitment to this community then join me and vote for Anthony Sylvester for Commonwealth Attorney on November 3, 2009.

A TREASURED
ENDORSEMENT
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter in support of Gayle Braswell who is running for the office of Commissioner of the Revenue in Colonial Heights, and wish to share with you my reasons why I believe her to be the most qualified for that office.
The treasurer’s office and commissioner of revenue office work together on the state income tax and state estimated tax. During the twelve years that Mrs. Braswell was employed in the commissioner’s office, she was assigned the task of processing, entering refund amounts on the state tax screens and preparing all reports and seeing that they went to their proper departments. If there was a question regarding an entry that did not match the treasurer’s report, she and I would work together to find the problem and correct it. We were never written up by the auditors for failing to do our job.
During the nearly twenty-five years I served in the Treasurer’s office, the elderly citizens were always a priority with me. I’ve provided them with stamps, writing their checks for their signature, mailed other letters, went by their homes to pick up their bill payments to avoid late payment penalties, and even have called the hospital to verify that the individual was hospitalized to avoid late penalty charges. I have also paid out of my pocket the penalty and interest when their checks were not correct. These actions are just a small part of the job.
I have had the opportunity of knowing and working with both candidates. I agree with Mrs. Braswell regarding the DMV Select as it will not only provide a one stop shopping, but will produce needed funds to help operate the City.
On November 3rd 2009, cast your vote for Gayle Braswell, Commissioner of Revenue.

AN ELDER
ENDORSEMENT
Dear Editor,
On November 3rd, we have the opportunity to re-elect our Hopewell Commonwealth’s Attorney or elect an unknown who recently moved here and rents a house.
As of this date, I have never met nor seen Anthony Slyvester’s opponent, so I have to guess he is a good fellow. He has not paid taxes to Hopewell, works in Petersburg and was soundly defeated by the good people in Dinwiddie when he ran for the Commonwealth Attorney’s job two years ago.
The Sylvester family has been paying taxes here for three generations along with attending our churches and schools. Please remember the Commonwealth Attorney is a Constitutional Officer and is totally separate from the Police Department. He can only prosecute those arrested by the police and brought to him.
I hope you will join us fellow lifetime Hopwellians and re-elect Anthony Sylvester.
Sincerely,
George S. Elder
Former Mayor & Councilamn

WELL-DESERVED
RECOGNITION
Dear Editor,
Thank you for the wonderful article about Gene Wells, automobile salesman at Strosnider Chevrolet. We bought our first car from Gene in 1964 and have bought countless vehicles from him over the past 45 years. We have found him to be a most knowledgeable salesman and a very considerate man. It seems like a miracle that a relative of someone working at Strosnider Chevrolet would have seen this car and made note of Gene's name on the bill of sale.
Gene is very deserving of the attention this has brought to him, and we thank you for the article.

A TRIBUTE TO
HAZEL NEWSOME
Dear Editor,
A Stalwart Christian Lady is no longer among us anymore, because far above the stars and moon she did soar.
She left this world with tears of joy streaming down her face, as she was getting her first glance of a marvelous place.
On Sunday October Eleven, Hazel Newsome, Our friend and loved one entered the gates of Heaven.
She would not want us to grieve and be sad, and would want us to know she is having the best time she has ever had.
At 9:22 p.m. on Sunday Night her earthly body had to let the soul depart, because she had finished her time on earth and has a brand new start.
Hazel has run the race she was determined to win,
by living a life that wasn’t full of strife and sin.
She would want those she left behind, to follow her example and to others always be faithful and kind.
The dear one we loved so much would want to be remembered as that faithful friend, upon whom everyone could always depend.
Hazel started reaping her eternal reward the second her life on earth came to an end.
And knowing her as I did I am sure the message to us that she would send, would be at her services to celebrate her life by honoring Jesus with worship and praise and that she is looking forward to a reunion with each of us one of these days.
You were loved Hazel and will be missed but God created you and loved you first, so when He decided another Angel was needed to enter His Domain with a joyful burst, He thought of your faithfulness to Him and chose you to be the one,
to go to your Heavenly Reward and live with Him and His only Son.
How you must have shouted as you entered Heaven’s door, knowing that every minute of eternity would be spent with Him for evermore.
Hazel our heart-felt loss is Heaven’s gain, but we rejoice knowing your journey is complete and for you there is no more pain.
