PRINCE GEORGE — County police have charged a third individual in relation to the death of Tameka Claiborne.
Darren Fenceroy, of Bailey's Ridge Lane, has been charged as an accessory after the fact to a felony, a class one misdemeanor offense carrying a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
Police arrested Fenceroy at his home July 30 on a warrant obtained four days earlier. Fenceroy is currently out on $2,500 bond.
He came to the door of his apartment Tuesday to speak — briefly — about the pending charge.
"I was shocked [when police showed up]," Fenceroy said. "I mean, that's not me, the character they're portraying — that's not who I am," he continued.
Fenceroy declined to comment further on the specifics of the case, citing stress and privacy concerns.
Theodore Johnson, with the Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, said charges against Fenceroy would remain in Prince George as the alleged incidents took place wholly in the county. Richmond will work closely with Prince George in the prosecution of this matter, Johnson said.
The search for Claiborne began when her toddler son was found July 20. He was wandering alone in a Chesterfield County apartment complex at 11 p.m. The complex where the child was found is about nine miles away from where his mother lived in South Richmond.
The search for Claiborne included the city of Hopewell as her boyfriend, Solomon, was also missing and his car is registered in the city.
Three days later, Solomon turned himself in to Richmond Police. He said nothing about the whereabouts of Claiborne. Later that day, her body was found along the James River in Charles City County.
That weekend, Solomon's car appeared in the Autumn Woods apartment complex in Hopewell. Evidence from the car led to the arrest of Alphonzo Richardson, of Petersburg, as an accessory after the fact and the abduction charge for Solomon.
Solomon and Richardson are being held in Richmond City Jail without bond.
Solomon returns to circuit court Aug. 23 for preliminary hearings for the charge of murder as well as concealing and transporting a dead body. On Aug. 26, he appears in general district court for charges related to the abduction and abandonment of Claiborne's son. Richardson is due back in general district court Sept. 16 at 9 a.m.
Richmond Police are requesting any and all information in relation to the entire incident.
