Shooting Suspect Arrested in Enon

RICHMOND – Gunfire erupted at the McGuire VA Medical Center Wednesday morning. According to Richmond Police, the emergency call was received at 7:17 a.m. Officials say that a gunman shot a victim in the parking lot at the federal facility early this morning and then fled the scene in a dark blue navy Ford Sport Trac. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries from the gunshot wound.

Virginia State Police received a call shortly before 8 a.m. to be on the look out for the suspect’s vehicle.

Virginia State Police stated that at approximately 8:30 a.m. Trooper A. Doss, Jr. who is assigned to the Charles City and New Kent County area, spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Route 5, near the intersection of Route 607 in Charles City. The trooper followed the vehicle until other law enforcement could assist.

State police, with assistance from Prince George, Hopewell, and Chesterfield, attempted to stop the truck near Route 10 and Route 36 in Hopewell. When officers got out to approach the suspect’s truck, he took off heading westbound on Route 10.

Police stated that the suspect’s vehicle was stopped just west of the Interstate 295 overpass on Route 10 near the Wawa. The suspect, a black male, was then taken into custody at 8:40 a.m. Route 10 was temporarily shut down to one lane of traffic during that time.

The Virginia State Police released the suspect to the custody of the FBI at the scene. Special agents also processed the vehicle for evidence before it was towed and lanes were reopened after the incident.
According to the FBI, the incident remains under investigation, and no further information was to be  released before the paper’s press time.
