HARRISONBURG -- Former James Madison men's soccer player C.J. Sapong (2007-10) is on the ballot for the 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star Game.
The Sporting Kansas City forward and 2011 MLS rookie of the year is among six KC players nominated for the fan ballot by a panel of media members. There are 114 players -- six per MLS club -- on the ballot.
Fan voting for the All-Star team launched online and via text June 8 and will continue through July 2. Fans may vote at www.MLSsoccer.com and also by texting a player's last name to 22442. Voting will also be enabled via Twitter on June 21-22 with details to be announced.
Sporting Kansas City's other representatives are goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, defender Aurelien Collin, midfielders Roger Espinoza and Graham Zusi and forward Kei Kamara.
The MLS All-Stars will meet European champion Chelsea FC in the AT&T MLS All-Star Game on July 25.
The 11 players with the highest combined online, text and Twitter fan votes will become the First XI All-Stars and will be unveiled on July 8 at halftime of the Chicago Fire-Los Angeles Galaxy match. One of those 11 spots is automatically claimed by the player that earns the most text votes.
The game-day roster to face Chelsea on July 25 will be selected by All-Star manager Peter Nowak from the First XI as voted by fans, two Commissioner's picks and the pool of players who received votes from at two fellow players.
Nowak's squad list will be unveiled on Sunday, July 15, at halftime of the New York Red Bulls-Seattle Sounders match.
