James Rainey Emerson, Sr., 85, of Disputanta, passed away on Saturday June 30, 2012. He is the son of the late James T. and Bessie Emerson and is also preceded in death by 7 sisters, Alice Emerson, Nellie Berry, Elva Cox, Fanny Bailey, Mary Emerson, Annie Allgood, and Mary Wray; 5 brothers, Henry, Glenn and John Emerson, and Robert and Ira Crowder. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lillian Emerson of 63 years; son, James Emerson, Jr.; 3 daughters, Julie Gerhart (Herbert), Yvonne Goodman (John), and Patricia “Patty” Talley (John); grandchildren, Christine Brown (Jimmy), Shelby Emerson, John D. Goodman, Jr., Julie Rebecca “Becka” Goodman, John Mason Talley (Tanya), James B. and Megan Emerson; 3 very special great-grandchildren, Caroline Franchock, Emerson Talley, and Zachary Brown; 3 sisters, Myrtle Casey (Jack), Eva Riddle, and Patty Hughes; 2 brothers, George Emerson, Sr. (Mildred), and Edward Emerson (Bertha); 2 dear sister-in-laws, Margie Emerson and Helen Goode. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday July 2, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 3, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park. Austin “Joe” Hayes, 78, of Hopewell, passed away on June 28, 2012. He was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the son of Daniel J. and Katherine Nagle Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a Vietnam War Veteran who retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service; he also retired from Suitt Construction in Hopewell in 2000. He was a member of Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Parish at Ft. Lee, Virginia. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Sakiko Hayes; sons, Michael Hayes and his wife, Missy, their children Michael and Mary; Edward Hayes and his wife, Lynn; Richard Hayes and his wife, Anne, their children, Ryan, Lucas and Rachel; Dr. John Hayes and his wife, Dr. Sandy Rozar, their children Justin and Julianna; his daughter, Katherine Hayes St. Onge and her husband, Robert, their children, Kristine and Jakob; his sisters Helen Dempsey of Haverhill, Massachusetts and Lillian LeVasseur of Bradford, Massachusetts. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church, 510 W. Poythress Street, Hopewell; immediately following, the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church with Chaplain Captain Thomas Kirchhoefer officiating. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery. John Andrew Eggleston, 82, of Hopewell passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 in McGuire Veterans Hospital. John was retired owner of A.C. Eggleston and Son Construction Company, a U.S. Army Korean veteran with the 45th infantry and a recipient of the Purple Heart, an honorary member of the Crossroads Hunting Club and attended Prince George Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Y. Eggleston, three children, Keith W. Eggleston (Frances), Kay E. Eure (Jim) and Kenny D. Eggleston (Stephanie), five grandchildren, Andrew Eure (Donna), Kevin Eggleston, Michael Eure, Kelly and Sara Eggleston, two great grandchildren, Shailyn Nester and Bristol Eure, a sister, Frances E. Jamison and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in the Prince George Christian Church with Rev. Wayne Marburger officiating.
