In the wake of the traffic accident that killed 17-year-old Marvin Massenburg, Jr., the Virginia Department of Transportation will be installing a guardrail along the section of Courthouse Road where the Prince George High School student died.

County administration was notified of VDOT’s intentions on Monday night. VDOT Residency Administrator Bob Zimmerman told the county that the rail could be installed in the next two to four weeks.

Massenburg passed away on Sept. 25 when he pulled over to the side of the road to let a police officer pass. His vehicle rolled down the steep slope at the side of the road and sank into the swamp that borders the road.

“We are extremely appreciative of VDOT’s quick reaction to remedying this issue,” Prince George County Administrator Percy Ashcraft said in a statement. “VDOT is an important partner in providing a high quality of life for our citizens and they are always quick to handle issues whenever it is feasible.”
