PRINCE GEORGE – What do roses, eggs and Thomas Dale cheerleading titles have in common?
They all come by the dozen.
The Thomas Dale cheerleading squad won the Central District cheer competition for the 12th time in the 19-year history of the tournament on Monday at Prince George High School.
“I think the girls left it all on the mat,” said first-year Thomas Dale coach Candace Thompson. “We worked really hard for them, and they just left it all out there.”
Colonial Heights finished second, Prince George third and Meadowbrook fourth. The top four finishers qualified for next week’s Central Region competition.
Colonial Heights, which won last year’s district competition, has finished first six times since the event's inception in 1994. Meadowbrook is the only other school to win the title. The Monarchs claimed the district crown in 1995.
Thompson said the Knights will be aiming to replicate their success at the regional competition, which will take place on Monday at the Verizon Wireless Arena on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
