Arrests Made in Gang Shooting

Arrests have been made in the shooting of a 16-year-old male on Halloween in the 3600 block of Wilmington Ave. While the police were investigating a shots fired call, the juvenile arrived at John Randolph Medical Center with gun shot wounds. He was transported to VCU Medical Center and was released Nov. 1.

Four Adults and five juveniles were arrested in the case, including the victim of the shooting. The individual whose shots struck the victim was another 16-year-old.

On Friday morning, Stoker confirmed that the shooting was gang related and said gang charges had been filed, including gang participation and gang recruitment.

The juvenile who fired the shots that struck the victim was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, amongst other things, while several other juveniles were aslo charged with discharging firearms within the city. Several of the juveniles, including the victim, were also charged with assault by mob.

Adults Jaquan Alphonso Dennis, Howard K. Jones, Dion Saunders and Tonya Yvonne Blizzard were arrested Thursday evening, along with the five juveniles. The adults are being held at Riverside Regional Jail and the juveniles at the Crater Detention Center.

The Hopewell police are continuing to investigate the shooting with assistance from Virginia State Police special agents.
