Local men charged in Richmond shootings

Two Petersburg men were charged in separate shootings in Richmond last week.
Jawan Lee, 21, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, both felonies, in connection with a shooting that occurred at the Woodland Crossing apartment complex in the 3400 block of Walmsley Boulevard, at approximately 3:43 p.m. March 7.
The victim, a male in his 30s, was in critical condition at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond.
Detectives say Lee fled on foot after the shooting but was quickly captured not far from the scene with the assistance of Chesterfield County police officers.
Richmond police have also charged a Petersburg man in conction with a shooting that occurred inside a Shockoe Bottom nightclub a few weeks ago.
Police say David L. Batts Jr., 25, was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a felony, in connection with a shooting that occurred inside the Canal Club, 1545 E. Cary St., at approximately 1 a.m. on Feb. 18.
No one was injured during the incident.
Batts has previously faced numerous charges. In Petersburg, he had been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, assault and battery and destruction of property. He faced grand larceny charges in Colonial Heights that were dropped, and charges of possession of a gun by a convicted felon that were dismissed in Richmond in 2010.
