Betty Wright Smith, 79, of Hopewell, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013. Betty was born and raised in Hopewell and attended Hopewell High School. Her purpose in life was to be a loving and caring mother and grandmother, which she did with all her heart and soul. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Carrie Wright. She is survived by her husband, Ettrick C. Smith of 57 years; three children, Barry Scott Smith (Tina), Jill Smith Osbourne (Rick) and Diane Smith Black (West); eleven grandchildren, Barry, Randi, Nick, Maggie, Anna, Trey, Kelly, Amanda, Tyler, Taylor, and Ambryn; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Barry, Emyrson and Bodie. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 also at the funeral home, with the burial in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, Va. Lyle Morris Tway, 83, of Hopewell, passed away on May 25, 2013. He was the son of the late Alfred V. and Genevieve Morris Tway; and was also preceded in death by a son, Edward L. Tway; a brother, Eugene and sisters, Bev and Janet. Mr. Tway retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Sergeant First Class after 20 years of service. He then worked for Allied Chemical (now Honeywell) for 11 years, and most recently retired from the city of Hopewell as the head purchasing agent after 16 years of service and was a member of the Retread Motorcycle Club. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, LaVon M. Tway; a daughter, Sharon B. Sloan and husband, Bob; one son, Dennis D. Tway and wife, Evelyn; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Phillip Tway and wife, Karen; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phil Andrews, officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester, VA.
