Luis Carlos Guzman-Ventura, 19

CHESTERFIELD — A fugitive wanted in a homicide in Maryland has been arrested in southern Chesterfield.

Luis Carlos Guzman-Ventura, 19, was arrested Monday in the 19000 block of White Fawn Drive, just west of Ettrick.

Guzman-Ventura is the second suspect arrested in the murder of 14-year-old Eliezer Reyes of Lewisdale, Md. Guzman-Ventura formerly lived in the 2300 block of Rittenhouse Street in Hyattsville, Md.

On Dec. 5, 2012, at 12:15 a.m., patrol officers with the Prince George’s County, Md., Police Department responded to the 2200 block of Sheridan Street in Lewisdale, Md., for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, patrol officers discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Reyes died at a local hospital. The second victim, an adult male, survived his injuries.

Police say detectives quickly identified the suspects involved in this gang-related murder. Detectives arrested 24-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez-Nunez on Dec. 6, 2012. They also obtained a warrant for Guzman-Ventura on Dec. 8, 2012. Investigative developments led detectives to believe Guzman-Ventura was living near Petersburg. With the assistance of the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office, Chesterfield County Police Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Guzman-Ventura was located and arrested on June 17. He remains in Virginia awaiting extradition.
