JAMES PEACEMAKER JR./HOPEWELL NEWS/NEWS-PATRIOT Runners start out the Leprechaun Dash 5K at the boardwalk area in City Point on Saturday.
HOPEWELL ó Many of the runners crossing the finish line of the Leprechaun Dash 5K on Saturday wore green attire to show their Irish spirit.
But first-place finisher Dylan Tracey didnít have to dress up. As a native of Limerick, Ireland, heís about as authentic as you can get. The 17-year-old Hopewell High School student with red hair came to Hopewell when he was 13.
The 5K run, which took a route through City Point, started and ended near Appomattox Manor. It was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Hopewell and benefited the club and Hopewell Public Schools.
More than 100 people participated, some making a mad dash to the finish line, while others taking a more enjoyable pace.
The second-place finisher was Jamie Brooks, of Texas, who is a soldier currently stationed at Fort Lee for training.
The third-place finisher was Garrett Boots, of Henrico, who came to Hopewell to support his brother.
