Pageant brings Hollywood to Hopewell

BRIAN CAPALDO/HOPEWELL PUBLIC SCHOOLS Taryn Hunter was crowned as this year’s Miss Hopewell High School and Brandon Young was chosen the winner for the men.

HOPEWELL — “Glamorous Hollywood” was the theme of the 2014 Miss Hopewell High School Pageant, held last Saturday night.  The contest is open to students at the school in their junior year.  Thirteen young ladies and seven men competed for the honor.

Taryn Hunter was crowned as this year’s Miss Hopewell High School. 

“When I found out I won, I was so excited,” Hunter said. “My mom was in it, when she was in school too. That makes it really special to me.”

The pageant is more than just a social event. It is also a fundraiser for the school’s Junior/Senior Prom.  The Miss Hopewell High School pageant is one of the school’s longest running traditions going back to the early 1950s.

Brandon Young was chosen the winner for the men, and took home the crown of Mr. Hopewell High School.

The winners were:

• Jacqueline Zurcher – First Runner Up & Miss Congeniality

• Jessica Bell- Second Runner up

• Yuliza Martinez – Fashion Winner

• Gillian Stables – Talent Winner
