Alexander Hill, Jr.
PETERSBURG — Following a Petersburg house fire that killed four occupants early Saturday morning, authorities are investigating the case as a homicide and have identified a person of interest.

Authorities are seeking Alexander Hill Jr., a 47-year-old black male who is currently wanted by Petersburg officials for violating a protective order, providing false information and assault, as a person of interest in this investigation, according to the Petersburg Police Department.

Officers from both the Petersburg Police and Fire Departments responded to a house fire call at approximately 3:30 a.m. at 721 Harding St., on Saturday, said Esther Hyatt with the Petersburg police.

“More than a dozen firefighters discovered the residence in full blaze” and responders were able to extinguish the major fire within 10 minutes, and put out all hot spots by 4:30 a.m., according to the press release.

Three adults and one child were pronounced dead at the scene as a result from the fire, Hyatt said. The names were not released by authorities as of Sunday afternoon.

The Petersburg Bureau of Police said they suspect foul play based on certain evidence acquired from the scene.

With connections to Petersburg, Richmond, Newport News, Virginia Beach and Trinidad, Hill is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds, has black hair and distinctive hazel eyes, and should be considered armed and dangerous, authorities said.
