BLAKE BELDEN/HOPEWELL NEWS/NEWS-PATRIOT Wamsley’s Tire & Auto Center in Colonial Heights was severely damaged by fire Thursday morning.
COLONIAL HEIGHTS — An automotive center on the north end of the Boulevard in Colonial Heights burned down early Thursday morning.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. a patrolling police officer called in smoke coming from Wamsley’s Tire & Auto Center, located on the 3500 block of Boulevard, according to the fire department.

When fire responders arrived on the scene, there was heavy fire “through the roof and partial structure collapse,” said Fire Chief A.G. Moore.

Moore said it took about an hour to get the fire extinguished and ammunition and aerosol cans were periodically exploding in the air.

No one was in the building during the fire and there were no injuries, authorities said.

The automotive shop is attached to a souvenir store which sustained mostly water damage and some fire damage.

As of 11 a.m., the cause of the fire had not been determined, Moore said.
