The Disciples get a strike from Blue Devils pitcher Chris Mosley.

The Hopewell Blue Devils Baseball Team kept up the fight until the very end during their first seasonal game against the Central Virginia Disciples, at Hopewell High School last Thursday.
With 2 outs and the bases loaded at the bottom of the final inning, the Hopewell Blue Devils had their final chance to break the slim lead set by the Central Virginia Disciples, 5-4. Ricky Jones was on third base waiting for his moment to break through and he took it
Jones already had 3 runs under his belt during the game and 2 stolen bases. But it didn’t work out. The steal from Ricky Jones to home was stopped and the game came to an end 5-4.
“Ricky Jones has got great instincts I trust his instincts 100 percent,” said Blue Devils Baseball Coach Adam Capps. “It just didn’t go our way this time.”
The Blue Devils Baseball Team was in the lead until the 5th inning with a score of 4-2. But when Chris Mosley, Blue Devils pitcher got worn down the runs came in for the Disciples, making 3 runs in one inning putting them in the lead.
“It’s to be expected it’s his first game of the season,” said Coach Adam Capps “He’s not used to throwing that many pitches he got tired before we expected.”
Blue Devils Chris Mosley pitched for 4.1 innings, had five walks, had 6 hits against him, five runs against him and struck out five. Coming in next on the Blue Devils pitcher’s mound was Cameren Hill, a lot of times after a series of runs things can spirits out of control noted Adam Capps.
But things didn’t spiral for the Blue Devils; Cameren Hill was on the pitcher’s mound undeterred by the Central Disciples scoreboard jump. Hill pitched for 2.1 innings with 3 struck out, had no walks or runs against him. The Blue Devils kept the Central Virginia Disciples in place.
“I love seeing the fight in our guys. That’s something we really preach to keep fighting until the very last out is made,” said the Blue Devils Coach. “That’s what we did.”
Hopewell has their next game against the Prince George Royals at Prince George High School on March 28 at 5 p.m.
