Nelda Crookshanks McClaskie
Nelda Crookshanks McClaskie, 67, of Hopewell, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at her residence.
She was born in Hinton, W.Va., and had been a long time resident of Hopewell.
Mrs. McClaskie was a member of the Red Hat Society, a lifetime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where she was assistant Sunday School teacher and was a retired office manager from Colonial Heights Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert B. Crookshanks; and a brother, Gene Crookshanks.
Mrs. McClaskie is survived by her husband, Billy Franklin McClaskie of Hopewell; a son, Rick W. McClaskie and his wife Barbara; two daughters, Kelly M. Allmon and her husband Doug and Didi M. Wagner and her husband Doug, all of Hopewell; ten grandchildren Eric, Brooke, Stephanie, Melissa, Steven, Marcus, Adam, Seth, Cole and Tanner; her mother, Thelma Remley Crookshanks of Rupert, W.Va.; two brothers, Delbert Crookshanks and his wife Lucy of Disputanta and Dale Crookshanks and his wife Shirley of Rupert, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Hendricks, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chesterfield County.

Virginia Riddle Walker
Virginia Riddle Walker, 77, of Prince George, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 in John Randolph Medical Center.
She was born in Prince George County and had been a lifetime resident.
Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Clifton E. and Minnie Harrison Riddle and the widow of Jack Bond Walker.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Francis Walker and his wife Toy of Hopewell and Jack Keith Walker of Prince George; two grandchildren, Ronald F. Walker, Jr. of Prince George and Dustin R. Walker of Chesterfield; five sisters, Velma R. Novak of Surry County, Marion R. Eggleston of Chester, Hazel R. Williamson of Hopewell, Barbara R. Goodrich of Prince George and Joan R. Rogers of Hopewell; three brothers, Clifton E. Riddle, Jr. of Hopewell, Loren R. Riddle and Larry G. Riddle, both of Prince George; and several nieces and nephews.
The family receives friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
A funeral service was held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment was in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens.

Lydia Gail Clayton Dean
Lydia Gail Clayton Dean of Cleveland, Okla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, after an ongoing battle with brain and lung cancer.
She is survived in death by her loving mother Julia P. Willis of Zuni; her uncle,Walter John Podruchny (Buddy) of Yale; and two aunts, Louise Madja of Curtis Bay Md., and Doris Weathers of Fuquay-Varnia, N.C; her four children, Jonathan W. Dean (Shawn), Alice L. and Ronald C. Fontenot Jr. and Adam C. Dean all of Cleveland, Okla., and Julia J. and William K. McBride Jr. (Bill) of Dinwiddie; siblings Daniel and Barbara Clayton of Falls Church, Karen and Ted Griffin of Windsor, Stanley Clayton Jr and Reba of Zuni and JeVonne Gwaltney of Wakefield; eight grandchildren, Alexa R. McBride and William K. McBride III (Trey) of Dinwiddie, Ronald C. Fontenot III (Tripp) of Cleveland, Okla., Krystal and Kaleah Dean of Hopewell, Christopher and J. Cody Dean of Prince George and Alizabeth Russell of Wakefield.
Lydia's four great grandchildren are Trista and Skylar Smith and Lukara Spence all of Hopewell and Carmen Russell of Wakefield. She is also survived by her beloved dog Spooky, whom she loved and cherished. Lydia was very loved and will be missed dearly by all her family and friends we know you are at peace in heaven and can finally rest.


Margaret Pannell Farmer
Margaret P. Farmer of Covington died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Henrico Doctors Hospital Parham Campus in Richmond.
She was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Pulaski County, daughter of the late Robert Lee Pannell and Macie McCoy Pannell.
She was a member of the Calvary Christian Church (DOC).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland M. Farmer, and a son, Garland "Buzz" Farmer, one sister and three brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, Sybil F. Powell and her husband Bobby of Richmond, and Saundra (Sandy) Persinger and her husband Glenn of Prince George; daughter-in-law Velda Farmer of Stuarts Draft; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and a sister, Marie H Pannell of Radford.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Christian Church on Wednesday, Oct. 10, with the Rev. Mike Warren officiating.
Interment was at Alleghany Memorial Park.
The family was served by Arritt Funeral Home in Covington.

Dallas E. Johnson
Dallas E. Johnson, 87, of Hopewell, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the Thomas Palliative Care Unit at Medical College of Virginia Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Etta Hanchey Johnson.
Dallas retired  from Dupont in 1976 as a pipe fitter. Dallas loved camping, traveling, gardening and carpentry work. He was the last surviving charter member of Carroll Street Free Will Baptist Church in Magnolia, N.C.
He was a  member of Family Worship and Praise Center in Hopewell, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a  Navy veteran of WWII.
On Sept. 9, 2007, he celebrated 69 years of dedicated Christian living.
He is survived by eight children, Ann J. Dillon of Hopewell, Ellen J. Mayton and husband James of Chesterfield, Betty J. Laxson of Hopewell, Lloyd E. Johnson and wife Frances Ann of Richmond; Carol Sue Thomas and husband William of Clifton, Texas, Cynthia K Johnson of Hopewell, Dallas E. Johnson Jr. and wife Janet of Hopewell, Howard A. Johnson and wife Suzanne of Chester; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Family Worship and Praise Center with the Rev. Rodney Mason and the Rev. Robert Sawyer officiating.
Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park.

Misty Marie Mongold
Misty Marie Mongold, 27, departed this life on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Diana Patchen.
She is survived by her father, David Mongold; sisters Tracy Brinkley and Crystal Patchen; fiance Freddie Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial will be held.


Ruth Ann Vickers
Ruth Ann Vickers, 65, of Chester, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Carole Keil and husband, Steven; son George Vickers and wife, Jennifer; mother, Hazel Cavender; brother, Edward Cavender and wife, Margaret; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrea, Elliot and Zoe.
According to Ruth Ann's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Entombment will be in Charleston, W.Va.


Nancy I. Zevgolis
Nancy I. Zevgolis, 82, of Hopewell passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Zevgolis and daughter Cora Antoinette Gladwell. She was a wonderful and loving mother.
She is survived by six sons; Gene (Michelle), Paul S.(Valerie), Richard L., George (Melissa), Alan (Brenda) and William R.( Kathy) Zevgolis; daughter Kiki Lynn (Paul) Herin; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; five brothers; Theodore, Archie, Gene, Steven Wall and George; sisters Janie, Mary, Cora and Eunice, as well as many other loving and devoted family members and friends.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, where funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Interment was at Appomattox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Road, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
